Our deep dive into 1950’s sweaters takes us to 1956. Here we see a short sleeve scoop neck sweater with a pretty front and even prettier back. Sweet is the name of the game with this embroidered sweater made by Boepple. The back detail includes a scoop neck and pink bow. The pretty in pink look is styled with bangle bracelets, button earrings, pink hair bow, and a dirndl skirt. The ad appeared in Glamour magazine in their March 1956 edition.
The ad is for Acrilan, the polyester yarn used to make the sweater. For more on Acrilan and the Chemstrand Company, check out this post.
Double duty ads that advertised more than one product were common in mid-century fashion magazines. Although the main topic of the ad is Acrilan fiber, it also advertised the sweater which was made by Boepple. In fine print, the ad told readers that the sweater could be purchased at the following stores.

I was excited to see Joske’s on the list. Joske’s was a great department store where I worked in the hosiery and handbag department in the seventies.
