Mid-century parents and today’s parents have a lot in common as it relates to caring for a baby. Dress them in something soft, comfortable, and easy to launder. Enter Hanes baby clothes. This brand helped supply clothing for the baby boomer generation as they do today. Several Hanes full page ads were found in my collection of mid-century women’s magazines. They offer sweet images of moms and babies that are delightful for our 21st century eyes. Here’s one from the early 1960s.

The ad provided pricing for Hanes baby clothing basics.

Prices started at fifty cents for a sleeveless shirt in 1961. Today, the price would be about $3.75 per shirt.
The ad also offered consumers the option to put 10 cents inside an envelope to send away for a “stuff-it-yourself” toy. Little order forms like the one below were seen frequently in mid-century advertisements. Funny how things change.

Here is a Hanes baby clothing ad from 1959 showing a sweet scene. We see a 1950s mom dressed in pink holding two small children.

Note the black square. The original owner of the magazine cut out a section of the ad. Perhaps it was another special offer order form.
Here are 4 more Hanes baby clothes ads from the 1950’s and 1960’s.
