
Ready for wardrobe inspiration from days gone by? The fabulous sweaters you see here came from the pages of the September 1964 edition of McCalls magazine. Included is information provided in the article such as price, brand, and fiber. I find it interesting to compare these looks with what we have today. I hope you do too.
First up is my favorite. The two-tone bulky turtleneck you see above was made by Kingstone and sold for $33.
The model below is wearing a cashmere cardigan and cowled sleeveless pullover with her tweed skirt. All were made by Dalton. The 3 piece outfit cost about $85 in 1964. This is the most expensive look in the collection.

This Jacquard sweater with an extra-long turtleneck collar was made with heavy-gauge wool. It came from Marianne Ohm and sold for $23.

This color-blocked bulls eye acrylic sweater in black and white was from Studio Knits. It sold for $45.

This hand-crocheted granny square sweater that was imported from Italy for Colebrook. It sold for $20 in 1964.
Shown below is a rib-knit bistro sweater in reddish orange wool from Geist and Geist. $12.
This is a comfortable two-tone 1960’s sweater with a drawstring neckline. It was made with Orlon and linen. It sold from Jack Winter Jr for $15.
Wool burgundy and purple stripe sweater from White Stag. $15
This ruffled neckline sweater was made with a soft blend of pale-pink lambs wool, fur, and nylon. From Old Colony. $11.
The model below has a quirky smile. She is wearing a long hunter green sweater. The sweater has an oversize collar and cuffs. It is from Geist and Geist. It came with a matching knit watch hat and cost $30.
Shown below is a fisherman’s sweater handknit in foamy off-white wool imported from Italy for Colebrook. $15.
This embellished pullover in white-shaker knit has colorful embroidered flowers. From Phil Rose. $25
