Charming 1956 Couple: Vintage Fashion Insights

A 1956 ad features a couple in vintage attire, showcasing a dress by Murray White, representing classic fifties style.

1956 Charming Couple. Woman posing, man taking picture.

This charming couple is brought to us by Wamsutta Mills. Published in the May 1956 edition of Charm magazine, it has the complete fifties look. It is one of my favorites. I love that the advertiser choose an illustration instead of a photograph to show us this dress designed by Murray White for his “Sized to Height” brand. It is picture-perfect.

The woman has a hat, gloves, clutch bag, jewelry, and a carnation on her collar. Her dress is made from Wamsutta’s crisp “ribbon-stripe” cotton voile. She is posing for her bow-tie clad beau who is taking her picture with a wonderfully vintage camera.

A wide, 20 gore skirt, and cool neckline…the superbly soft, yet crisp cotton boasts the famed “Good Conduct” finish for a wrinkle-free, carefree life.

About Janet

I'm an American baby boomer with a strange hobby. I collect mid-century women's magazines. My blog, MidCenturyPage.com is a result of a 20 year passion to scan the pages of these magazines and share them with anyone who wants to understand what mid-century women thought about, cared about, and worried about while living in the 1950's and 1960's
