1959 – A Picnic with DIY Sandwiches

This mid-century meal is a picnic to make.

Memorial Day is just a short week away. It is perhaps time to think about all the fun that comes with summer. First up. A picnic. Here’s a great mid-century ad showing a mom helping her daughter make a sandwich with French’s mustard. The table has a great spread of cheese, meats, cupcakes, fruit, and bread. Looks yummy.

The ad comes from the August 1959 edition of Ladies Home Journal. It provides a simple recipe.

From super market to picnic spot where everybody fixes his own!

Sounds like a great idea for an easy picnic.

My blog, MidCenturyPage.com is a result of a 20 year passion to scan the pages of these magazines and share them with anyone who wants to understand what mid-century women thought about, cared about, and worried about while living in the 1950's and 1960's
