The concept of stockings have evolved through the years. The ad you see was published in 1957 when it was common to wear nylon hosiery that was held up with a garter. DuPont, and not Hanes was actually the sponsor of this ad which was meant to educate women on the possibilities of nylon stockings for fashion and flattery. Thankfully this concept is behind us.
