Wholesome Scenes in Vintage 1952 Ads

A 1952 New York Life Insurance ad features a cheerful farewell scene, highlighting community and storytelling elements.

Here is a feel-good scene showing a wholesome crowd of townspeople at the train station saying goodbye to a smiling man. What is it advertising? Hint. It’s not an ad for the next Frank Capra movie.

The ad is for New York Life Insurance and it comes with a story. In fact, the illustration and story take up a full page of the July 1952 Ladies Home Journal. It isn’t until you read the less-obvious print at the bottom of the page that you see the name of the company.

If you’re like me, and you like a Frank Capra style of storyline, here’s the text of the story behind the illustration.
