1964 – Crossing Guard Paper Doll

Mid-century make-believe.

I couldn’t resist one more Betsy McCall paper doll post. Previously this month, I posted a Betsy McCall doll on her first day of school and a Betsy McCall paper doll on her first day of school. Here is one more. This time she is an older, more responsible paper doll. Her important job? A crossing guard.

The page included a little story about how the pre-teen got the prestigious gig.

And here she is with her little cousin.

The Betsy McCall feature was a popular page in McCalls magazines in the mid-century. The feature began in 1951 and lasted until the 1990’s.

About Janet

I'm an American baby boomer with a strange hobby. I collect mid-century women's magazines. My blog, MidCenturyPage.com is a result of a 20 year passion to scan the pages of these magazines and share them with anyone who wants to understand what mid-century women thought about, cared about, and worried about while living in the 1950's and 1960's
