1961 – Pack Your Bags

It's time to travel with American Tourister luggage

This luggage ad from American Tourister appeared in the May 1961 edition of McCalls magazine. Its tagline read:

These two American Touristers weigh less than a rooster and a rose.

As someone who appreciates the convenience of today’s wheeled luggage, I understand why they would want to promote lightweight luggage. However the scale in the ad reads 10 pounds. That seems a bit heavy for an unpacked suitcase. Such is life. They had to deal with heavy luggage, and we have to deal with TSA.

This sturdy luggage came in 4 colors. Prices started at $18.95.

Colors: Golden White, American Blue, Silver Disk, Princess Tweed.
