1952 – How to Make a 7-Up Float

Fizzy family magic on a hot day.

Mom and son make 7-Up Floats – Ladies Home Journal July 1952

Remove pop top and pour chilled 7-up into a glass filled with 2 scoops of ice cream. That’s the simple recipe for this summer afternoon refreshment. It is made extra special thanks to mid-century glass pop bottles. I love that they were sold in 24 bottle cases.

Raise you hand if you remember turning in empty glass pop bottles for cash when you were a kid.

Seven-up with ice cream! What a cool, cool combination for a summer afternoon . . . what a treat for the whole family!

My blog, MidCenturyPage.com is a result of a 20 year passion to scan the pages of these magazines and share them with anyone who wants to understand what mid-century women thought about, cared about, and worried about while living in the 1950's and 1960's

Every once in a while my mother would make this for us when we were growing up. It was delicious! We felt like we were enjoying party food. My children loved what we called a Purple Cow–ice cream in grape soda.
