1959 – Mid-Century Modern DIY Rug

How to make a rug for this Mid-Century Modern Living Room

This colorful room is brought to us from the March 1959 edition of Woman’s Day magazine. It was part of a larger article titled How to Use Color. This small room with a low ceiling, white walls, and simple, but colorful décor appeals to my 21st century eyes. It is classic and modern rolled into one. Do you love the rug? If so, you can make one. The editors at Woman’s day even provide directions.

The room sits inside this 19th New England Colonial saltbox.

Here’s a download of the article that describes how to make the wool braided rug.

About Janet

I'm an American baby boomer with a strange hobby. I collect mid-century women's magazines. My blog, MidCenturyPage.com is a result of a 20 year passion to scan the pages of these magazines and share them with anyone who wants to understand what mid-century women thought about, cared about, and worried about while living in the 1950's and 1960's
