1959 – Child Facemask

A past, present, and future look at facemasks.

Morgan-Jones Dish Towel Ad – Good Housekeeping July 1959

This image showing a child wearing a face mask is not from 2020, 2021, or even 2022. It is from a 63 year old ad that appeared in the July 1959 edition of Good Housekeeping magazine. This ad for dish towels jokingly showed a child wearing a face mask with a caption that reads:

Morgan-Jones all purpose cloths make good doctor masks

So here were are in 2022. We laugh and say “If they only knew”. But what will they say 63 years from now? What will they say in 2085? Perhaps it will be “What were they thinking?”

I'm an American baby boomer with a strange hobby. I collect mid-century women's magazines. My blog, MidCenturyPage.com is a result of a 20 year passion to scan the pages of these magazines and share them with anyone who wants to understand what mid-century women thought about, cared about, and worried about while living in the 1950's and 1960's
