1956 Mademoiselle Ad: Charming Couple in Love

The July 1956 Mademoiselle ad features an illustration depicting newlyweds embodying mid-century domestic bliss, reminiscent of Elvis and Marilyn.

We continue our look at mid-century love with this cute illustration for Ever-Lovin’ Viv lipstick published in the July 1956 edition of Mademoiselle magazine.

This is the 2nd illustration for this ad campaign that I have featured. The other ad was similar in content. The campaign was telling a story. The first ad showed the couple on their wedding day. Shall we assume that this is the same couple pictured as newlyweds 2 months later? We see mid-century domestic bliss. She– with her apron and wooden spoon. He–with his suit and forget-me-nots.

I can’t help but think that he looks a lot like Elvis and she looks a lot like Marilyn.
