1963 Mom and Morning Oats

What's for breakfast? Quaker Oats with brown sugar.

Mid-century sisters eat morning oatmeal with mom in this 1963 ad for Quaker Oats

This ad for Quaker Oats captures the sweetness of mid-century mornings with a bowl of oatmeal served special with brown sugar. The sweetness continues with the matching sister hair bows and matching mommy daughter outfits. Food ads like this were typical for Good Housekeeping magazine (this one appeared in the November 1963 edition). I found that Good Housekeeping was a step up from similar homemaker magazines which catered to the stay at home moms. The magazine still exists today.

About Janet

I'm an American baby boomer with a strange hobby. I collect mid-century women's magazines. My blog, MidCenturyPage.com is a result of a 20 year passion to scan the pages of these magazines and share them with anyone who wants to understand what mid-century women thought about, cared about, and worried about while living in the 1950's and 1960's
