1951 Why Wear White?

A mid-century fashion article with a nod to the women serving in the US Waves Naval Reserve.

This May 1951 fashion article from Glamour magazine had a single theme: White. More specifically it told how, why, and where to wear fashions which were white. It is a favorite of mine for its simple styling and fun photography. It is the early 1950’s at is best.

It is also noteworthy to consider the time in history. When it was published in 1951, the Unites States had entered the Korean war. The article referenced the United States Waves. This naval reserve organization was made up of women volunteering to serve. Pictured in the article is the wave women wearing their white uniforms.
