1962 Mother Daughter Porridge

Mid-century matching mother daughter pair enjoying breakfast

If often requires a second look to determine the subject for an ad. At first glance, you may think this is an ad for mother daughter clothing. It turns out that this 1962 ad from the February McCalls is for Quaker Oats. The matching pair are enjoying breakfast with pineapple. And . . . we were right from the beginning. The ad also includes a pitch for mail order matching striped mother daughter dresses. Pay 3.50 for mother and 2.50 for daughter.

About Janet

I'm an American baby boomer with a strange hobby. I collect mid-century women's magazines. My blog, MidCenturyPage.com is a result of a 20 year passion to scan the pages of these magazines and share them with anyone who wants to understand what mid-century women thought about, cared about, and worried about while living in the 1950's and 1960's
