In the mid-century, Woman’s Day magazine published collector cookbooks that could be easily cut out of the magazine. These little booklets were treasures to mid-century homemakers who loved to cook or bake. Like our world today, tried and true recipes are kept in a convenient place to be used over and over. Likewise, we save recipes that we would like to try for future use. This habit has remained constant through the decades.
Imagine being a 1950s housewife flipping through the pages of the February 1959 Woman’s Day magazine, and discovering this booklet. Titled “The Collector’s Cook Book #25”, it was all about pastries. Specifically, Party Pastries. Yes please.

The 8 page booklet had 48 different pastry recipes. They provided 31 recipes for Dessert and 17 recipes for Hors d’oeuvres.
They showed a few of the pastries on this page that introduced the recipes.

Pictured are the following recipes.
Chocolate Cupcake
Petits Fours
Lincoln Log
Glazed Cherry Tart
Napoleon
Peach Cream Tart
Cream Puff
Cream puffs filled with crab-meat salad
Curried shrimp diamonds
Cheese twist
Anchovy puffs
Cheese hearts
Seeded Cheese Slices
Mushroom Pastries
Chicken-Liver turnovers
The recipe booklet was printed on pulp paper that fades and cracks over time. Thankfully the little book survived 66 years and I was able to scan the pages to share with you. The booklet is available as a pdf below.
