Summer Fashion Trends from April 1959

Casual summer looks for kids and moms

Summer Fashions – Good Housekeeping April 1959

The setting for this fashion photo shoot is a playground in front of a classic chain link fence. It accompanied a multi-page article showing summer fashions to readers of the April 1959 edition of Good Housekeeping magazine. I choose 2 pages of the article to share for today’s summer theme posting. I love that the dress can double as a beach towel. Very cute and very clever.

Above: Cotton terry-cloth beach dress with fringed hem. Opens to form a towel. About $11., Play outfit for girls. Shirt: $3. Shorts: $2.50, High-neck pull-over sweater with stiped poncho. About $17

Above: Tapered slacks with slash pockets worn with multi-colored polka-dot shirt. Slacks: $13, Shirt: $8. Rompers with flower appliques. Sizes 3 to 6x $6.

About Janet

I'm an American baby boomer with a strange hobby. I collect mid-century women's magazines. My blog, MidCenturyPage.com is a result of a 20 year passion to scan the pages of these magazines and share them with anyone who wants to understand what mid-century women thought about, cared about, and worried about while living in the 1950's and 1960's
