1964 – Lacy Summer Looks

Wear lace for a cool sexy summer

Sheer dress by Oscar de la Renta – Vogue May 1964

The editors at Vogue suggested the look of black lace for summer in their May 1964 edition.

This is the summer for black lace, suddenly wonderful over gold-washed skin, and re-uniting summer with romance

The sheer dress shown above was designed for Elizabeth Arden by Oscar de la Renta. It was described as “a dress of sheer black silk marquisette over pale crepe the color of face power with a black Chantilly lace overskirt slit up the front”.

The lace look continues with this pretty dress. She is wearing a ruffled tippet (shawl) and overskirt of black lace, over narrow black silk crepe. Designed by Sophie and custom made at Saks Fifth Avenue.

These classic looks are made modern with the fabulous 1960’s styling that is a pleasant departure from the refined look of the 1950’s. If you love fashion like I do, stay tuned for more looks from this article tomorrow.
