The ad appeared in the September 1964 issue of Ladies Home Journal. Sego was a 225 calorie protein drink distributed by Pet Milk company. The idea was that a protein drink would make you feel less hungry.

With extra protein, that satisfied feeling lasts longer

We can compare it to products such as Ensure or Boost in today’s world. Ironically, these drinks are marketed to folks such as seniors who use the protein drink not to loose weight, but often to gain weight.

The PET Milk company is still around today. I have a can of their evaporated milk in my pantry.
