1952 Goodbye Milkmen

Can you guess what this June 1952 ad is for? It contains a charming illustration of mid-century nurses with trays of lunch. On each tray is a carton of milk. The ad isn’t for milk, but for milk containers.  Specifically, disposable milk cartons under the name of Canco.  Targeted to women who make household decisions, this Good Housekeeping ad was meant to convince her that paper milk cartons were healthy and sanitary.  It would take a decade before milk men were yesterday’s news, and the dairy shelves began to resemble those of today.

I'm an American baby boomer with a strange hobby. I collect mid-century women's magazines. My blog, MidCenturyPage.com is a result of a 20 year passion to scan the pages of these magazines and share them with anyone who wants to understand what mid-century women thought about, cared about, and worried about while living in the 1950's and 1960's
