1951 Twin Bed Couple

1951 Blanket At

This ad for North Star blankets was published in the October 1951 edition of Today’s Woman magazine. It shows a couple preparing for bed in a room with 2 twin beds. This concept baffles me. We know that censor laws required TV married couple bedrooms to have separate beds. But why carry over these laws to a magazine that clearly discussed sex in its articles or short stories?

About Janet

I'm an American baby boomer with a strange hobby. I collect mid-century women's magazines. My blog, MidCenturyPage.com is a result of a 20 year passion to scan the pages of these magazines and share them with anyone who wants to understand what mid-century women thought about, cared about, and worried about while living in the 1950's and 1960's
