1963 The Swellest Sisters

A big sister serves waffles to her siblings in this 1963 Aunt Jemima ad.

The baby boomer generation was from 1946 to 1964. This means that the oldest baby boomers were teenagers in 1963 when this ad was published.  A big sister serving breakfast to her younger siblings was likely a common scene during this time in history.  Ads such as this were common in popular go-to’s like Good Housekeeping for busy stay-at-home moms raising a family. Brands like Aunt Jemima were deemed as necessary for modern families.

By the way, pecans and waffles sound delicious. Yum.

About Janet

I'm an American baby boomer with a strange hobby. I collect mid-century women's magazines. My blog, MidCenturyPage.com is a result of a 20 year passion to scan the pages of these magazines and share them with anyone who wants to understand what mid-century women thought about, cared about, and worried about while living in the 1950's and 1960's
