Mid-century advertising varied based on the magazine. This ad for Devilwood canned ham comes from a 1960s issue of Good Housekeeping. Like the name suggests, this magazine catered to homemakers. These homemakers would have sought products that provided options for the daily task of making lunch. The ad you see here shows a picnic, a cute couple, and a kiss.

The ad suggested to fill the picnic basket with Underwood Deviled Ham ‘n egg sandwiches. If she wanted to take advantage of a special offer for a “sandwich set”, she would put $1.50 and a Underwood deviled ham wrapper in an envelope and send it to an address in St Paul Minnesota. I always find it interesting to see how mail order was done in the 1960’s. Note the address. This was a time before zip codes.
