Max Factor’s Vibrant 1960s Lipstick and Nail Polish Ads

Max Factor promoted its "California Mad Mad Colors" lipstick and nail polish line in March 1963's Good Housekeeping magazine edition.

The ad you see is for Max Factor. It appeared in the March 1963 edition of Good Housekeeping magazine. Max Factor advertised their new line of lipstick and nail polish colors. The brand was one of many women’s makeup brands that promoted the vibrant color pallet reminiscent of the 1960s.

Max Factor – California Mad Mad Colors Ad – March 1963 Good Housekeeping

Here they are announcing their new line of “California Mad Mad Colors.” The line features Too Too Pink, Mad Men Melon, Not Quite Orange, and Mostly Strawberry. According to the ad copy, the model is wearing the color Too Too Pink lipstick and nail polish.

The brand had frequent ads in mid-century magazines. Here are two more Max Factor nail polish and lipstick ads from my collection.

My blog, MidCenturyPage.com is a result of a 20 year passion to scan the pages of these magazines and share them with anyone who wants to understand what mid-century women thought about, cared about, and worried about while living in the 1950's and 1960's
