This friendly family of 4 from the fifties is posing in the forest wearing matching pink pajamas. Look close and you will see breakfast on the ground. It seems that they will be eating toast and hard boiled eggs.
Weldon was a company that made pajamas for adults and children. They often advertised in mid-century magazines like the ad you see below from the February edition of Cosmopolitan.

According to the ad copy, the sleepwear sold for $4 for children’s sizes and $5 for adult sizes. The package of Pjs was named “King & Queen of Hearts” wash and wear for Valentine’s Day. It came with a Valentine greeting card. This fun holiday-themed clothing was available at fine stores. Potential buyers could also send a letter to the company for more information. The address given was:
Weldon Pajamas, Inc
350 Fifth Ave
New York 1, N. Y.
Here is another 1950s Weldon sleepwear ad from earlier in the decade. This one was advertised for a man. It too sold for $5.
The pajama bottoms for this ad were styled to look like a pair of shorts. They have a normal waistband with a snap closure.
Shown below is another Weldon Pajama ad for a family. This too was from earlier in the decade. These 1952 pajama bottoms also had a waistband and pleats and were made to be tucked in.

… cuffed, pocketed, pleated, slack-tailored trousers in broadcloth complete with Lastex Waistband Wonderbelt.
Here are two more Weldon Pajamas ads from my collection of mid-century women’s magazines. Lucky for the wearer’s of these style of pajamas, they are more like we are used to today.
